Find Your Niche - The Internet Marketer’s Goldmine

Friday, November 13th, 2009

If you haven’t heard the word ‘niche’ being batted around by Internet Marketers then you haven’t been listening. Finding a niche has become the antidote to competing in overly saturated online markets.
What is a niche?

According to Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary a niche is described as “a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted… a specialized market”.

Have you noticed that despite the closing of many businesses in these harsh economic times, the local hobby train store is still around? That the ‘hole-in-the-wall’ eatery is thriving? Or that trends such as scrapbooking can start with a bang and still close within a year when four similar businesses start up in the same area?

The online business world reflects the same trends as experienced in the offline world - often with faster turnover and startup rates. Those who promote a product or site that targets a small, select audience can tap into a market that is otherwise not being served. Despite the limitations of the client base, the targeted nature of the business creates a devoted and active market - the aim of any business.

HOW DO I FIND A NICHE?

Finding a niche requires diligent research. Whether you have access to software that harvests and sorts information or you take a manual approach you must first start with ideas.

With a pen and paper (or computer, if that’s more comfortable) brainstorm a list of businesses, products and industries. Create a list of keywords and phrases you think would be used by individuals looking for these items online.

Use a software program such as Wordtracker or a free resource such as the Overture Keyword Selector Tool to find keywords for your niche that have a high amount of traffic.

Although a program like Wordtracker makes it easy to find details such as how many sites compete for that market, you can also do your own research.

Concentrate your attention on question phrases such as “how do I…” or “where can I…”. These questions will clue you into potential markets that need servicing.

Next, look in Google Answers. Type one of your keywords into the search area. What questions are being asked and how much are people willing to pay for answers? If you find a group of keywords with a high number of questions then enter these words in your browser’s search engine.

What sites come up? Do they provide answers or solutions to the problem? How are they making money? Can you see an opportunity to service these individuals?

Finding a niche can open the door to a profitable online business. Research the market and be certain that your product or service is valuable to this group. Find forums or groups that target this audience and pay close attention to their concerns.

If you can help these people you WILL make money. The best of both worlds!

Most Renowned Rrocesses That Ensure Higher Rank

?Once it has been built and the traffic will creep in?- this methodology has lost its days in regards to market websites. Internet marketing has now become very legitimate. Every business professional must take adequate time to understanding how they can get a substantial increase in “free” web site traffic through basic search engine optimization begins with the fundamentals. These recommendations assume a site does not possess any technical issues that may cause a search engine to avoid indexing it or to not index it properly.

First, what is search engine optimization? Also known as “SEO”, search engine optimization can be defined as a set of methodologies aimed at improving the visibility of a website in search engine listings.

If you have a web site, no one will find it unless you promote it. Promotion opportunities for a web site vary and should include both offline and online tactics. On the Internet, the most common way for users to find web sites is through search engines. In fact, a recent study shows more people are using search engines than the Yellow Pages to find vendors.

Search engines work by “crawling” the internet, following known links to find updated pages and new web sites, saving copies along the way. The information from the saved web page text is analyzed by sophisticated algorithms that assign values for categorization and ranking. Additionally, the linking relationship of the indexed site is compared to similar sites and communities of sites.

Even though there are many variations in types of web sites and search engines are constantly refining their ranking methodologies, there are a common set of rules to follow for better search engine placement.

1. Do your keyword homework: People can gain important insight into what types of phrases are being used to find your type of web site with keyword research tools. http://Wordtracker.com and http://Overture.com offer free tools for this purpose. As you categorize and create content, keep keywords in mind.

2. Use keywords in title tags: The title tag is critical for a search engine to understand and rank a page. Make sure each page of your web site includes a unique, keyword-rich, descriptive and readable title tag of 8 ? 10 words.

3. On page text: Use a version of your title tag on the visible page of your site - the higher up on the page, the better. A keyword-rich tagline will also do. This is important for search engines and your site visitors.

4. Content is the key: Fresh content is better. Plan to add new pages of content on a regular basis. New pages should follow a theme and be placed into categories. If you sell “clothes” then add product reviews, press releases, customer comments, how-to information, etc on a regular basis. Incorporate “clothes” related keywords in the title tags, on-page titles and descriptive text on the new content being created. Search engines will give a preference to sites that offer new content over time.

5. To submit or not to submit: While Google, Yahoo and MSN offer free submission forms, the fastest way for your site to be included in a search engine is to be linked by sites that are already in. Rather than pay a service to submit your site, pay for a press release and have it submitted through an online newswire service. Include links to your company web site in the release and each web site that publishes the release becomes a link to your company. Take the time to research and submit to important online directory submission services .

6. Link in, link out: All major search engines use incoming and outgoing links as a way to measure a site’s popularity with a preference to incoming links from authoritative and information rich web sites. Ask distributors, marketing partners and clients to link to your site using keyword rich link text and descriptions. For example, if you sell impeccable clothes, the link text might be: “Company ABC Impeccable Clothes” and link to the page on your web site that offers the best information on “impeccable clothes”. Avoid exchanging links with other sites that have nothing to do with your industry. In fact, you might consider avoiding link exchanges altogether. Link out to other web sites related to your content such as an industry associations, organizations, manufacturers, publications, articles, etc.

7. Link smart. Linking the pages within your site is important especially if you can link keywords in a sentence to another page that provides more detail. Example: “Company ABC offers a complete range of clothes for every type of occasion or event.” where “clothes” is linked to your clothes product page. This applies to links within the pages of your site as well as links from other web sites.

There are some measures to drive the traffic to the website as per the renowned Search engine optimization tools, but while observation with the patient is the main thing to get the high rank on the Search Engines.

Make Money With Top Search Engine Rankings

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Its no secret that Google gets most of the traffic on the internet, followed closely by Yahoo and MSN back in third place. So if we’re going to beat the next guy at getting some free search engine traffic what is required and where would you start?

Well first of all you have to realise that you aren’t likely to rank at the top of most keywords overnight, infact it can take months of hard work to rank for high traffic keywords so the key here is to start with keywords you can target that don’t have a lot of competition. This makes your job 50% easier before you even load a page to the internet.

Next lets look at the specific engines, google takes the longest to rank for out of the top 3 so I like to look closely at MSN search because my experience tells me that even though they dont get anywhere the same amount of traffic I can rank higher and faster here.So my first port of call is to do keyword research specifically with MSN in mind.I use a few tools here but by far the easiest way to do this is to use the free keyword reseach tool at digitalpoint.com .Here you can check keyword patterns and traffic patterns for your desired keywords to see how many searches are performed in the major engines, and also to find spin off keywords you probably would’nt have considered before. You can also check both Overture and Wordtrackers results against each other here to get a feel for how the traffic patterns are going to be for a top rank with your selected keyword.

A rule of thumb I use for MSN is that the traffic for any keyword I search in digital points tool is divided by approx 3-4 to give me an idea of the traffic in MSN.So if my desired keyword had 1000 searches per day according to both Wordtracker and Overture then I can confidently say a number 1 rank in MSN should provide about 300 searches. This doesnt mesn you will get 300 hits ,in fact you may only get about half the searchers hit your site through MSN or any search engines for that matter even if you rank # 1.

So now I can confidently say a top rank for that keyword will provide approx 150 hits or visitors per day.So now we have chosen a keyword that looks good whats next?

Check out the competition on MSN.Theres no point choosing words that you realistically will never rank for .The competition pays big money to be at the top so unless you have the same budget stay away from that game. Those so called gurus of the internet will squash you .My reccommendation is to rank for terms that have less traffic and thats easier to get to #1,especially in MSN.

So what am I looking for when it it comes to my competition ? well we all know that relevant ,theme related inbound, 1 way links from authority sites are the easiest way to rank # 1 or top 10.

In fact it doesnt take too many high quality inbound links to rank for thousands upon thousands of terms. So here is where the fun begins,After you have uploaded your site and optimised the page with all the relevant html tags etc then gathering links to your page is the single most important task you can undertake to rank.I am not an authority on link gathering but here are a few suggestions.

Write high quality articles about your chosen subject or pay someone to write articles ,then submit them to the free article directories, here your article will be picked up by other webmasters and placed on their site with your link on them,This can create many many 1 way links very quickly for your page.

Approach other webmasters in your chosen topic and request link exchange(I personally dont do this as its boring and outdated and honestly is very time consuming)

Use social bookmark sites like del.ici.us to get your content out there and also to get you links from your tags. The search engines love social bookmark sites,I use about 25 of them and they always provide high quality 1 way links, and often with very high PR.

Write a blog about your site and link to it then feed that blog using rss or other syndication methods.this can also provide 1 way links and better results in the search engines.

Buy links. Yes buy them , a few high quality , related links with good Google Page Rank will help massively.

These few ideas I use every day and many more to get traffic and beat the next guy in the engines, especially MSN.

So there you have it a few small ideas to get you moving so go forth and “make money”.

So the only thing left to do after you have achieved a top rank for a number of keyword terms is to make money from them and here are my top two ideas for making money that I use everyday.

1) Google adsense, Sign up free and place the ad code on your page and you will earn a share of each and every click visitors make from those ad blocks.

There are dozens of other places you can earn on a “pay per click ” basis but Google stands out head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion.

2) Affiliate marketing, If your site or page is about losing weight, then sign up free as an affiliate to any one of hundreds of sites that sell these type of products .Then place a link on your page which has your personal code embedded into it and if a visitor clicks on your link and decides to buy then you will recieve a share of that sale.Sometimes as high 70% of that sale.

So there you have it,now go out there and make some money online, because if you dont I will do it for you.

The Real Secret To Finding Hot Niche Markets!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Finding a niche market is simple. Finding a PROFITABLE niche market is a little harder, but it’s still easy once you know what you are doing. Otherwise, you will end up like 90% of the other niche marketers out there who spend weeks or months on a niche market only to find out there is no money to be made there.
Luckily I will reveal the secrets to finding a profitable niche market later in this article.

There are literally hundreds of ways to find niche markets. You can spend your time searching for popular keywords using tools such as Wordtracker, or you can walk around your local bookstore looking for common book topics. I’ve tried both of
these options when I first got started in niche marketing, and let me tell you, I lost the most money when I picked a topic that way. Why? Well, it’s simple. Just because people are searching for a keyword or phrase online or because there are a bunch of hard copy books on a topic, it doesn’t mean those markets will buy your products online.

Have you ever heard the advice “Target a niche market you are passionate about”? What a bunch of garbage that piece of advice is. It doesn’t matter how passionate you are about a topic, if
people in that market don’t buy products online, YOU WILL FAIL and fail miserably.

Here are 2 ways to find cash generating, starving niche markets that you have probably never seen before…

1) Ebay - the unlimited supply of niches. Everyone has heard of ebay, but few people think to go to ebay to find a niche
market. You would have to be crazy NOT to use ebay to find a market. This is one of the only places you can go and see exactly
what people are buying in real time. Here is how you do it.

First, go to ebay’s main page at www.ebay.com. At the bottom of the left column of links, click on the link that says “All Categories”. When you get to the next page, click on the link at
the bottom right of the categories that says “See All Categories”.

What you have just done is list every product currently for sale on ebay, but even more importantly, you can see HOW
MANY products are for sale in each category. There are literally thousands of categories of niche topics right in front of your eyes, and you can see how popular each one is in just a couple clicks.

I just clicked “See all Antiques categories…” and I uncovered several hundred niche markets within the antiques category.

This is what niche marketing is all about. The category “Antiques” alone is too broad. If you go after this one, you will
fail, however if you go after a sub niche such as “Asian antique bowls” or “Antique sterling silver flatware”, you greatly
increase your success rate.

Then, go to http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html and see just how flaming hot they are.

2) The next way to find a popular niche market is by going to the website www.meetup.com. From the homepage, there
is a link that says “Browse All Interests”. The website will then
list hundreds of topics in which people signed up to be a part of a group. It also lists how many people joined each group,
or “niche market” if you will. Who would have thought there would be a group of over a thousand people crazy about
scooters? I found this niche market under the automotive category.

Using these two methods, you should be able to uncover hundreds of niche topics to begin targeting immediately. Once
you find a niche market you want to build your business around, the next step would be to learn how to develop products
these markets will knock each other over trying to buy.
