Mindset - How You Think Will Ultimately Determine Your Level Of Success

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Your mindset is what motivates you to do whatever you do in your life (or conversely what keeps you from doing the things you want to, could, or should do). Your mindset is so very important to your success, not only in your business, but in your whole life.

Your mindset is the set of beliefs that you have that determines what actions you’ll take in every situation every day. If you’re a person who’s content to work a job every day and go home and drink beer and watch television every night with no desire to better your circumstances, you’ll probably never even see this article…so I’m not talking to those content to be drones. I’m talking to YOU. You who have a burning desire inside of you to be better, achieve more, have more success in life than you’ve ever had or can even imagine. I don’t mean just financial success; I mean a successful LIFE. Financial success will be a result of your life’s success if you can get your mindset right.

However you acquired your current mindset, whether it was instilled by your parents or crafted by your circumstances or experiences, or if you’ve built a mindset by design, you can not escape how you view things and how you’ll react to them without purposeful action. If you’re constantly negative, always the pessimist, afraid to try new things and you want to change some of those attributes you have to purposefully change the way you think.

When I was just starting out in online marketing, I had no clue what I was doing. I was overwhelmed with the amount of information to be learned and the sheer size of the learning curve ahead of me. But I jumped in head first. I started using some of the marketing methods that I was learning and saw little results. I began to get discouraged; began to doubt myself, asking if I’d made the right decision. Who was I kidding? I’d better just go back to the j-o-b. But then I had a revelation! I realized that I had to change the way I was thinking if I was ever going to see any success.

I was reminded of my own past experiences. I’ve always been an over-comer. I’ve never shied away from a challenge and have always come out on top. My first real job was at a t-shirt silkscreen shop. It was the industry of choice for me at the time. I loved to make things and printing t-shirts was intriguing to me; but there were no jobs available in the town where I lived. I was in a college town and there were many print shops to choose from, but all of them said they had no openings…except one. One guy said “maybe”. I think he may have come to regret telling me maybe because I called him every day at the same time until he finally caved. I think he grew weary of the daily 3:00 call from me checking on that job, so I was hired to “clean up” every afternoon after school and was rewarded with the gratuitous wage of $4 an hour. The company grew over the years that I worked there. It had become a giant in the industry, consistently earning annual sales of over $15 million…and through much hard work, learning, and having a mindset that wouldn’t allow me to settle for less than I believe I am able to accomplish, I eventually became the operations manager of that $15 million company! Me! With no college education or other professional business training…in charge of 150 employees and earning a very handsome salary as the operations manager of a very reputable, very profitable textile printing company.

Some years later, I chose to leave the textile industry for reasons unimportant for this story, but have had many similar experiences in other areas as well, all due to the mindset I have that tells me that I can accomplish whatever I set out to accomplish. In the years since working in the t-shirt business I became an I.T. professional at a national specialty healthcare company, once again, with no formal training. I like to work with computers and was determined to learn everything I could about them and earned a salaried I.T. position at a nationwide organization with NO formal training. I am also a step-dad to three great kids and guardian of a niece and two nephews. I have no biological children, so this has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve undertaken in my life but , I’m happy to say, is another area that my mindset has helped me conquer (don’t let me understate the difficulty of this one…it’s still a daily battle…but my wife and I are winning).

So why should I be intimidated by online marketing? Because it was something new? Because it was outside my comfort zone? I simply had to check my mindset and remember the successes that I’ve already had in areas formerly unexplored, but now conquered and know that I would succeed. Would it be an overnight success? Absolutely not! But staying focused on goals and keeping the mindset in check were key to daily action and daily progress and not giving up.

Now please don’t misunderstand. I haven’t said any of this to pat myself on the back or give the impression that I’m somebody special, but merely to illustrate some of what’s possible if your mindset is right. I’m not any more extraordinary than you are. I’ve just been instilled with a mindset and a work ethic that has allowed me to achieve extraordinary results.

You may not have examples so dramatic, but you do have successes that you can reflect on for inspiration. Maybe it’s learning to drive, or using the computer, or teaching yourself how to use your DVR…all things that you, at one point, did not know how to do. No victory is too small to draw inspiration from. It’s all in your mindset. If you can learn a new skill in any area, it’s a victory. Don’t cheat yourself out of the celebration. Every little victory has the ability to encourage you on to larger victories, so celebrate every one along the way. Press on with courage and know that success is attained or destroyed first in your mind.

How To Choose An Affiliate Programme Out Of So Many

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Everyday we are bombarded with all kinds of affiliate programmes promising heaven and earth and claiming to be your ultimate recipe for financial success. There are several ingenious marketers who are daily releasing programmes that appear to be the answer you need to embark on your journey to financial freedom. Often times, you are rudely shocked to realize that the programme you have joined is far from what you had expected and that your financial investments have gone down the drain.

Hence the need to ask questions. Let me repeat that it is absolutely necessary for you to ASK a ton of questions before you join any affiliate programme as it will save you avoidable heartache later. Take time to conduct some modest research about the features of the affiliate programme you are considering as you are going to be devoting time and financial resources on it.

Some of these questions shall include whether it will cost you anything to join. However, it is given that this will be free as most lucrative affiliate programmes that abound today cost you nothing to join. Therefore do not consider any programme that requires you to make some payment prior to joining.

Next point to consider will be the hit- per- sale ratio. In other words how many hits to a banner or text link will you have to record to record a sale? This is important because it will assist you to work out the traffic level that is required to generate a given desired number of sales. And of course it has a direct bearing on the amount of commissions that you qualify to be paid by the merchant.

Similarly, you will do well to find out when your earned commission checks will be ready for collection and how often you will be paid in a month. How many sales will you have to record to be entitled for a commission check? What is the minimum amount required for the commission check to be issued? Anyway, you have to choose the option that you feel is the most suitable to you.

The next question for which you must find an answer before you decide on any affiliate programme is the accuracy of the tracking system. How are referrals from an affiliate?s site tracked? Will the tracking system remain long enough such that when ever a prospect that you refer decides to purchase several weeks later you will still be credited with that sale? You must therefore find a programme that has a good tracking system that has this capacity.

Another important parameter that you should also consider is the group of affiliate statistics that are available to you from the merchant processing system. Such statistics should be detailed covering all relevant indices and available online real time 24/7. This will assist you in determining and monitoring your progress or lack thereof. Naturally, you will be very much interested in the average daily hits, impressions, sales and the like as these data are important in deciding whether you should modify your ads, banners etc.

You can also, depending on the nature of the affiliate programme, find out whether you can also be paid for hits and impressions in addition to the sales recorded. This is particularly important where the programme you are associated with offers low sales ? to- hit ratio.

A very important consideration in choosing your affiliate programme is the percentage of commission that is paid out to the affiliates per sale. Considering the fact that it costs virtually the same effort and financial resources to promote your affiliate programmes you must insist on reasonably adequate commission payments. 50% appears to be the dominant practice these days but anything higher will be appreciated.

Similarly, is the affiliate programme a one-tier or two-tier programme? A one-tier affiliate programme pays you only for the sale that you personally generate while the two-tier programme pays you for the business generated by your sponsored affiliate.
Infact, some programmes even pay what could be termed recruitment fees in order to inspire affiliates to exert themselves in getting more sign-ups.

It is equally important to try and know your merchant better. Determine if they are a solid company and their basic line of business and their products. Your research should also assist you to determine their relative standing in that particular niche and how easy it would be for you to successfully market their product and make some money in the process.

All said, these are only some of the basic questions you must find answers to before you jump into any particular affiliate programme. They are by no means exhaustive but are only supposed to provide with the basic guidance you need before making your choice out of the cacophony of claims and promises that abound on the internet. Whatever the case, however, you must be ready to work your business to success like many have been able to achieve and are financially happier for it.

Make More Sales By Making Optimized Web Pages.

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

So you’d like to be an Internet Marketer, marketing products or services on the Internet and live the good life that financial success can bring you. But how do you get to that point? How do you get a successful Internet business started?

Studies prove simple web sites can sale just as effectively as, or even better than, elaborately designed, phenomenal looking websites. Maybe you used your friend to make a web site for you and now you’re sitting back waiting on the dollars. Perhaps you purchased FrontPage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, or another web site software product and have been making your own sites. Most people who try to make money on the Internet fail miserably, have you?

Let me share a another secret with you. It’s not hard to learn HTML and CSS. It’s not hard to make simple web page that can be very effective at selling. One of the problems with full blown software packages like FrontPage or Dreamweaver is that it makes it very easy to keep adding to and tweaking your web site until its way too busy to be an effective sales tool. I create the majority of my web sites by directly editing the HTML, ASP, or PHP code in a text editor. There are times that I will do an initial layout in a package such as FrontPage and do the remainder of the work using a text editor tool. This is especially true for pages that are interactive, like a page that contains a form to collect user data and populate a database such as mySQL, or a page that pull data from a database to create dynamic output.

Let me share one last secret with you. The pages you create to sell something are probably not very effective at selling, unless you’re already successful, and experienced, at marketing and copywriting. When I first saw a sales page that had been optimized based on statistical analysis of successful and unsuccessful sales pages I was dismayed. I just knew that it was too simple and too plain to sell anything… I was not only wrong, I was dead wrong. I base my sales pages on this same statistically proven design, it’s clean and simple and there’s nothing complex or hard to about creating it. The main things are that you constrain the text in an area that’s around 800 pixels wide and that you have a white background in this area. You can have a boarder around this body area and the page itself can be black or white. You can see an example at my web site.

I’ve given you three secrets that can make your web site more successful and more profitable. Don’t just sit there, make it happen.
