The Web Search Engine Ranking Friendly Website

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Your website can be getting hits all day if your design is web search engine ranking friendly. You can make the best and most beautiful and informative website on the internet that people in your niche has ever seen but no one will ever see it if it isn’t search engine optimized. The prices that you have may be the best as well but unless you use some smart search engine optimization techniques no one will ever know.

The best kind of website promotion that you can have is making sure that it is built so that search engines find it attractive. It has to have your information phrased in such a way that the bots that they send out to see what types of information your website has will be ranked high in searches.

There are a couple things that you can do to help it be picked up by the search engines. One is to make the best usage of space on your website. Make sure that you have your keywords placed within the HTML code for your images, flash objects and videos. In the “alt” part of your HTML code place a description using the keywords or phrase. The search engines may not be able to read your graphics or see what words you have in your videos but they can see the HTML.

For improved website search engine ranking, you will also want to make sure that you are creating relevant title tags. This isn’t talking about the title that those viewing your website see, it is talking about the HTML tags that the search engines see that tell it what your site is all about. Some will have the same title tag for every page of their web site but doing so isn’t optimizing it for search engines. Each page should have it’s own unique HTML title tag relevant to the information on that page. That is guaranteed to make your web search engine ranking higher not only for your site but for that page in particular.

Make sure that you don’t have any duplicate information on your web pages. Don’t have the identical thing posted on different pages. This will not help draw attention to your website but may actually cause the bots to ignore your page. Also do not have hidden text in your page. Web builders in the past use to hide text in a page that viewers were unable to see but bots were able to pick up on and help with your web search engine ranking. Search engines caught on to this and now will hide web pages totally that it believes has hidden text in it.

These ideas are just a few of the necessary steps to help your search engine optimization efforts succeed. A web site design that isn’t using these techniques will not be making the most of any opportunities and may get you ignored by not just Google but Yahoo or any other search engines. Doing it correctly though and constantly finding ways to have your web site design optimized will help your web search engine ranking go through the roof.

Your Inside Scoop Keyword Search Engine Ranking

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

To understand how to get more efficient at finding out how to get the most out of keyword search engine ranking tools, you may need to know how they work. Search engines use things called bots or spiders to travel on the web and survey what is going on to build their databases. They go to each website and collect data that is then added to the search engine index. When someone does a search for something on the search engine, it will use all the data gathered to give the one searching the choices it believes best fit their needs. It also ranks them in order of how closely the site will meet their needs based on the way they search was phrased.

The most commonly used way the spiders gather the information is looking for keywords that seem pertinent to peoples searches. The keyword can be any work on a web page. Certain words and phrases tell the bots what it is this page has on it and stores that information so it can be used to aid in searches. The keyword search engine ranking efforts you use will make the most out of this.

One thing that web builders and authors may do is use meta tags to help aid the bots in their search for relevant information on your page. This will help the search engines know what the web page is about instead of having the bots guess and try to figure it out. This will help make sure that your website is viewed by people who might actually think your information is useful. Proper search engine optimization techniques will help make the most of these meta tags and will also help you figure out what words and phrases in your text will help get it noticed better by searchers and make the keyword search engine ranking high.

What is important for any website is generating a lot of website traffic. There are many advertising techniques you can use but having your website search engine optimized will often time help generate traffic more than any advertising. To get the most out of it is important that you compile a large range of keywords that could help get traffic to your website. Brainstorming is a good technique to use but also are the various free keyword search tools that can give you a list of relevant words to use in your writing. Keyword search engine ranking tools that are available use information form the search engines themselves to find out what words or phrases are being used to find information about what you are offering.

You will also want to find out how much competition you will have with others trying to use your keywords. You may have a niche you are trying to reach and have found keywords used by everyone interested in your products/services, but it won’t do you any good if the market is already saturated. If there are hundred of thousands of choices for those who are using those keywords you may have too much of a battle to fight to claim your piece of the pie. A good keyword tool can help you with this.

There are many other things that you can know to improve the keyword search engine ranking of your websites. If you gather as much information about this and incorporate it into you web site design and learn more about how search tools are used, the search engine ranking of your webpages will grow.

The Three Reasons Your Small Business Needs A Blog

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Just a few short years ago hardly anyone knew what a blog was, but now, because they are so easy to set up and maintain, their popularity has blossomed beyond all expectations. Blogs are not just for ordinary people who wish to expound on their hobby or area of special interest. Blogs are for the smart small businessperson who understands the power of the published word online.

A blog can provide a low cost means of marketing online, a feedback mechanism for establishing your side of the story against someone spreading negative and potentially damaging things about you and your business, and a means of connecting and communicating with existing clients and potential clients. The purpose of this article is to explain these three main positive reasons why your small business needs a blog.

1. A Blog as a Marketing and Promotion Tool for Your Small Business

Small business internet marketing seems easy at first glance, but many have tried it and failed. Others have persevered, perfecting search engine optimization techniques, keyword density and linking strategies, which work for some but not always for others. They have followed the advice of every “guru,” only to be more mystified at the end of the process than when they started out. They invariably end up thinking that there has to be a better way, and there is - a blog.

The search engines love blogs. Yes, a little optimization with careful keyword placement and some back links will never go amiss, but even the complete novice knowing nothing whatsoever can enjoy good results simply by regularly maintaining a blog. All it takes is a simple strategy, perhaps focusing on a particular product line and posting just once a day, to get results that will make a difference.

With time and as your understanding of blogging techniques improve, your small business internet marketing efforts will bear significant fruit. And remember, the cost of all this is negligible compared to newspaper advertising, for example. Of course, this is not the only reason why your small business needs a blog. What if someone is “badmouthing” you by blogging all over the Internet, perhaps because they didn’t like something about the way you do business? How do you defend yourself and give your side of the story? You need a blog!

2. A Blog as Feedback Channel to Establish a Positive Image for Your Small Business

A real-life example of someone who found themselves dealing with negative blog posts involves a medical doctor who practices on her own in California. She treated two patients whose poor health situation was largely of their own making. She told them that they needed to take some responsibility for their own health. This was not at all what they wanted to hear. Feeling insulted, they started to blog about it online, giving only their side of the story and painting a very damaging picture of the doctor in the process.

If you were to go to Google or any of the major search engines now and do a search for her name, the only information you would find are negative, almost libelous, rants created by these two aggressive individuals who couldn’t face up to the truth about their own health situations.

However, had this doctor previously considered the advantages of blogging for local small businesses to complement her business activities, she would have been able to limit at least some of the damage caused. Patient confidentiality rules would have prevented her from posting a positive rebuttal to the negative blog posts -her side of the story in other words. But she could have built up an archived library of positive and factual information about herself and her practice, automatically dealing with negative blog posts at the same time. Anyone then using Google to search for her name would still have found the negativity, but they would also have found the positive balanced view.

This type of situation can happen to anyone running a business, not just doctors. A blog for your business offers you the chance of great flexibility to promote your business, publish a positive image, and to communicate with all your clients, even those who don’t know that they have yet to become your clients!

3. A Blog as a Communication and Connection Tool for Your Small Business

People love getting free things on the Internet. We all do, in fact. And one of the most successful things to give away and help build your business at the same time is a free newsletter. Traditionally, this has taken the form of a specially formatted email, but increasingly small business owners are turning to blogs for publishing their newsletters. They still send out an email to the people on their list, but only to send them over to the blog where the newsletter can be read online.

This is a great way to communicate with your existing clients. You can regularly give them useful information, making them realize that your newsletter has real value. And every so often you can pitch an offer - a special bargain offer perhaps, and a percentage will make a purchase that you would not have had otherwise. But it doesn’t have to stop there. Your blog can be a tool for getting new customers too.

If you have carefully built up your business blog with regular and useful posts, the search engines will have noticed and in time your blog will be ranked according to whatever the search engines deem appropriate. Hopefully this will be a favorable placement, and if it is, people who search for the kind of product information you provide will find your blog.

When they are on your blog you can ask them to sign up for email alerts to whenever you make a new post, or whenever your latest newsletter is published. Once you have them on a list you can make offers to them and a percentage of them will buy. Blogging for local small businesses can be a wonderfully inexpensive and highly effective method of acquiring new customers with little effort.

There are many more ways to use a blog for any small business. Often it just requires your imagination to come up with new ways to use it. And you don’t have to limit yourself to only one blog; you can have several, each one dealing with a particular topic, and all of them linked together. This can be extremely powerful if done properly, and it isn’t hard to do either.

The three reasons I have offered you for why your small business needs a blog are indeed important ones. But they are not the only reasons. Don’t waste time now trying to think up other reasons. Get a blog in place first, and then the ways to use your blog will become increasingly obvious. You really do owe it to yourself to get your own small business blog in place today!

Ignorance Is Bliss, But Costly: The 5 Dumbest SEO Mistakes Revealed

Friday, October 30th, 2009

As new and even experienced web site owners we have all committed our share of blunders and stumbles along the way of making our sites rank higher on the major search engines. A lot of times we have gone against our gut feelings and listened to hearsay and unproven search engine optimization advice, or have jumped on the latest SEO bandwagon circulating the top SEO forums. But how many times have you made changes to your web site structure, content, or link popularity that cost you search engine ranking without being able to pinpoint the exact cause in the first place?

Well, ranking drops or the lack of ranking success initially can happen for many reasons, some of these reasons are within your control and others are not. For example, search engine algorithms updates and competitors moving on in your territory are completely out of your control. However, in this article I want to focus on factors and search engine optimization techniques that are in your control, but you may not be even aware of.

Do you like to give your web site a fresh new look every couple of years or even more frequently? Did you know that the number one reason for ranking drops is site redesigns without taking into consideration the SEO implications?

Perhaps you have changed the page titles on a few web pages, or renamed a couple of important directories and as a result your search engine rankings had dropped. How can you prevent unintentional ranking gaffs from happening in the future?

Ignorance is No Excuse When It Comes to Google, Yahoo and MSN

While no one can prevent you from committing every possible SEO mistake especially unknowingly, but these top 5 SEO blunders you should definitely want to avoid.

1.) Structure, Design and Usability: Images used to embed content and navigational link. Designing or redesigning the web site with content embedded in images. There is nothing wrong with designing your web site and navigation to be super sleek and stylish. However, going overboard with visual layouts and fancy graphics can reduce the amount of text you can squeeze in the content area and visible links, leaving nothing for the search engines to index. On average, each web page should contain a minimum of 200 to 300 words of text sprinkled with the target keywords. Also the navigation should contain mainly text links using well focused target keywords in those internal links.

2.) Web site Navigation: ?Click Here? ? ?Click There?. Your website visitor will no doubt will understand and follow the ?Click Here? instructions, but can the search engines figure out as easily what the target pages are about? Give the search engines and your visitors a clue about the destination page by ?labeling? your hyperlinks with a simple 2-3 word keyword rich instruction instead of using ?Click Here? over and over. For example, if you want your visitors to find out about your ?blue widgets? products, use ?blue widgets? in your hyper links like this Blue Widgets. The bottom line is, no one cares if you rank number 1 for ?Click Here?.

3.) Usability and SEO: ?Welcome to Our Home Page?. If every page title on your web site starts with this text you are on your way to be ranked number one for this phrase. This is clearly not what you want. It?s time to review every web page on your web site and give it a meaningful keyword rich title, and while you are working on the head section of the web page, pay some attention to the meta description, and meta keywords as well. Although optimizing meta tags are no longer considered a ranking factor on today?s search engines, having a unique page description and set of keywords will set your pages apart from the competition, not to mention the meta description is often used word for word to describe your website in the search results pages.

4.) Link Popularity: Cross linking your website and acquiring inbound links over saturated with the same keywords. If you own a number of domains, the temptation is always there to take the easy road to link building by linking your websites together regardless of content and keyword focus. It seems easy right? There are two problems with this approach. The first one is, you mostly likely host all the websites on the same server so your web sites are easily grouped into the same C IP class by the search engines and set of spam triggers. The second problem is linking web sites with a diverse keyword focus may diminishes any inbound linking gains due to thematically unrelated keywords. An unnaturally high number inbound links with the exact same anchor text links can also spell trouble. The web is a naturally growing ecosystem of sorts, everyone links to whom ever they want to, and how they want to. This results in inbound links with a wide variety of anchor text wordings. When you acquire inbound links through link exchanges, paid links or other sources you have to watch for links with an unnaturally high repetition of keywords in the anchor text to avoid the search engine spam radars.

5.) Structure, Design and Usability: Changing page and directory names and leaving orphaned pages on the engines. Changing web page names and directory names should be done with the outmost care. The older the web pages are the more harm you can do by not following some simple rules in removing or changing web page URLs. The search engines index new web pages within days if not hours on your website automatically thanks to their powerful crawler agents. Once the location of the new URL is registered with the search engines, it will remain in their database forever providing you don?t delete or rename the page. If you remove or rename the web page, the search engines will remove the page from their index including any link popularity or Google Page Rank data. This can have a negative influence on your web site?s ranking and your link popularity. The better approach would be to leave the page URL intact and simply write new content for the page. If you absolutely must remove or rename the web page, use what is called a ?301 Permanent Redirect? to the new URL.

Keys To Improve Search Engine Ranking

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Search engine optimization is the hottest thing to hit the internet since the arrival of the social networks. What is search engine optimization and what does it do? There are many different types of search engine optimization techniques but they all focus on the same goal. That goal is to get your websites higher ranking on the search engines, attract more traffic to your website so that your website gains enough exposure to actually show up in the top 10 spots of the search engines when people search for certain keywords. The reason why this is such a hot topic is because once your website gets ranked on the first page of the search engines, you will see a dramatic increase in your monthly profits.

Once a website is created it is very weak and although it looks good there is no way for the search engines to find your site among the other billion websites on the internet. To tell you the truth it truly is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Over a period of time, the search engines will eventually find and send their robots to crawl your website so that they can add this to their index. This is how the search engines not only find your site but also rate your site and see where it should be placed in the search engine rankings. If you can wait a year or so and let your website grow without any help from search engine optimization then that?s fine. The truth is even when the website is mature it most likely will not receive the exposure that you are looking for. I know some people that have had their websites for over 5 years and they have a page rank of one and they are still not ranking anywhere for the most common keywords for their business. By the way, page rank is how the search engines value your website. Although it is very hard to achieve page rank, the more page rank you have the better ranking you will see. Most people with disagree with the page ranking but supposedly that may change in the very near future.

How can I Improve search engine rankings you may ask? There are many different ways to improve search engine rank and to improve the exposure of your website but you have to start out with a good structure first then move on to the more technical techniques. If you are ready to take that next step and learn two of the most important techniques of search engine optimization, then keep reading and enjoy.

The first way to improve search engine placement and in my opinion are the most important technique to focus on are onsite search engine optimization. This technique is very powerful. I will give you a few hints on how this technique works.

First, we are going to talk about onsite optimization. This is one of my favorite techniques because it does wonders to your website. This is one of the most important tasks you must do to help the search engines find your web pages. You have to make your pages stick out like a lighthouse on a foggy night so the search engines can see them easier. Make sure that all pages in your website have good title tags. These are located at the top of each website you arrive on and they describe what the page is about. Make sure that you don?t have just your business name as the title because if no one knows about your business then how are they going to know what the name of your business is when they do a search for it. If you are going to be branding you business name and you think the business name will send you the traffic you want the by all means do it. Just like Nike, everyone knows what Nike is so people will use the keyword Nike to search for shoes and sports apparel.

Place some good keywords in the title tags that you think people will use to search for your business. This is a very powerful tool to help get your site more exposure. Next, make sure your ?meta tags? description has a good compelling content for people to view and come to your site. Make the description about two sentences in length. This next step is very important. Make sure your ?Meta Tag? keywords have all the good keywords that will help the search engines and people find your website pages. Now whatever keywords you place in this area, you need to also place these keywords all over inside the content of your website pages.

The content of your website has to be very compelling and you should also add these keywords here and there inside the content. Make sure the keywords you are using are related to your product you are selling on your website. If the content is not good and is just spammed with key words then you risk the chance of having the search engines boot your website. If this happens you will have a very slim chance of getting back into the search engine index. It?s not worth it to spam keywords, if you get caught you may have to start a whole new website over and loose any leads or income you have worked so hard to get.

This is one of the key tools to help improve search engine ranking. If you follow this tool and implement this on your website you will see a great change in the traffic to your website. It is not going to happen overnight but if you do it correctly I promise you it will happen over time. Remember, your website is a long term investment that will only get better with age. If you can be patient and use these tools I have shown you, you will see the difference.
