Keyword density is a means of measuring how many times a particular word is used within the content of a single web page, this is worked out as a percentage, for example if you had a web page constisting of a hundred words and one of those words was your keyword, then that keyword would have a keyword density of 1%
Backlinks
A backlink is a link that points to your site from another website on the world wide web, search engines tally each backlink as a vote for your site, the more backlinks you have, the higher your site will rank, by using keywords in the links pointing to your site it is possible to improve rankings for specific search terms. Keyword Prominence
Keyword prominence is used to measure how much a particular keyword stands out to search engines among the rest of the content on your page, search engines give keyowrds used in certain manners, such as header tags more weight and therefore this improves the prominence of that keyword.
Web Crawlers
A web crawler is a program that browses the internet in an automated manner, these programs are used by search engines to spot new content, once the crawler has found a new page that is not know by its search engine, it puts the pages web address into a list, the search engine will then send another program called a spider to the site, the spider creates a copy of the page for the search engine to return in its search results.
Robot.txt
A robot.txt is a straightforward text file which when placed on the root folder of a websites domain, can be used to instruct search engine spiders which pages they are allowed to read, and which pages you do not want them to add to their search engine results, this is helpful for several reasons, one of which would be that your website has data that is only intended for company persons to view.
